Whatever historical or current information you think is important for a reader to understand how gender shapes this occupation.

importance of gender within an occupation of
interest to you, preferably one that you think you
would like to occupy at some point.
This first section provides some background into
the occupation and its present status in terms of
gender. For instance, you may want to discuss
historical issues, such as when the occupation
began and how it has changed over the years
regarding its job content and gender composition. If
your focus is on change, discussing why the
occupation remains a woman’s job, a man’s job, or a
gender-neutral position might be interesting. Along
those lines, if the gender composition of the job has
changed over the years, you may want to briefly
review the types of social struggles involved in that
transformation. Has the change in gender
composition also been accompanied by a change in
job content or ideology about the work? You may
organize this section however you want to provide
whatever historical or current information you
think is important for a reader to understand how
gender shapes this occupation. How do people in
this position balance their work and family
responsibilities? Is it possible or desirable to
conduct some work from home? Is the job
amenable to flexible scheduling, time off for
maternity leave or occasional home emergencies?
Are there spoken or unspoken penalties for an
employee’s attention to her or his home life?
C. Gender Role Expectations: What is this job
like in terms of gendered expectations? Do people
who enter this occupation do so partly because
they believe it suits their gendered disposition? If
so, to what degree is this predisposition prescribed
in advance? How much flexibility is there to break
gender norms in this job?

· What does this commercial aim to market?
· Who is the target audience?
· How does the commercial manipulate the audience?
· What is the argument of the commercial?
· What sort of a life does the commercial aim to impose?
· What sort of values does the commercial aim to indoctrinate?

Be specific, even if you are not using direct quotes, and use quotes sparingly.

All students are required to write a critical book review of approximately 3-4 pages on “Feminism for the 99%” by Nancy Fraser, Tithi Bhattcharya, and Cinzia Arruzza. The review should include a brief summary of the work and its thesis (approx. 20% of the assignment’s length). The rest of the review should be dedicated to analysis and critique. Be specific, even if you are not using direct quotes, and use quotes sparingly. Limited parenthetical citation to the book under review is acceptable for this assignment.
NOTE: the book is also attached.
